Description

N,N-Dimethylacetamide (abbreviated as DMAC or DMAc, CAS No.: 127-19-5) is the dimethyl derivative of acetamide. The amide bond in its molecular structure confers a high dielectric constant and excellent polarity, while the presence of two methyl groups provides good hydrophobicity and solvency, giving it exceptional dissolving power for polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane, polyimide, cellulose derivatives, various resins, and inorganic salts. As a solvent, its most critical industrial application is as a key solvent in wet-spinning processes for producing high-performance polyacrylonitrile fibers (acrylic fiber, carbon fiber precursor) and polyurethane elastic fibers (spandex). In the chemical industry, it is an excellent medium for various polymerization, acylation, and Grignard reactions, and also serves as an important intermediate and reaction solvent in the production of pharmaceuticals (e.g., cephalosporin antibiotics) and pesticides. In the electronics industry, high-purity (electronic grade) DMAC is a core component of photoresist strippers, used for post-lithography cleaning in semiconductor manufacturing and liquid crystal display panel production. Additionally, it is used as a co-solvent in coatings, a production solvent for synthetic leather, and in industrial cleaning agents.
