Ethylene Glycol Butyl Ether Acetate (abbreviated as BGA, CAS No.: 112-07-2) is the acetylated product of ethylene glycol butyl ether. As a high-boiling, low-volatility, strong-solvency ester solvent, it exhibits excellent performance in multiple aspects due to its unique chemical structure: exceptional resin compatibility (good solvency for acrylic, alkyd, epoxy, and polyurethane resins), moderate hydrophobicity, and outstanding leveling and anti-cratering properties.
In the coatings industry, BGA is an indispensable high-performance co-solvent and leveling agent in original equipment manufacturer (OEM) automotive paints, automotive refinish paints, coil coatings, industrial baking finishes, and can coatings. It significantly enhances film gloss, smoothness, and distinctness of image (DOI), and effectively prevents surface defects such as orange peel and cratering. It is particularly suitable for applications requiring high-temperature baking or forced drying, as its slow-drying characteristics allow the film to level adequately.
In electronic chemicals, high-purity BGA is used as a photoresist thinner and electronic cleaning agent. In inks, adhesives, and industrial cleaners, it serves as a solvent to adjust drying speed and dissolution performance. In agrochemicals, it can be used as a solvent or adjuvant in pesticide formulations.
